Akil Nadir is finishing production on his third mixtape, Philosopher King. The new release includes music from his usual production team: Dam Good Soul, Du da Baker and Bridge. It also features production from new collaborators Slimkat78 and Decompose. Longtime fans will be pleased to note an increased presence, both behind the boards and in the booth, from Joe.D.
Nadir and Joe recorded and performed together for years as Dirty Water. More recently Joe has been working closely with Gods' Illa and other DMV hip hop acts. This mixtape marks a creative reunion of sorts and suggests that they may have another Dirty Water album coming along soon. Keep your fingers crossed. The first single, "BANG!" is a hard-hitting, raucous head-nodder produced by British beat-smiths Dam Good Soul that displays Nadir in top lyrical form. The link will be posted Friday August 10. The music video is currently in pre-production and should hit YouTube before September.
Philosopher King also marks the first release under Nadir's partnership with Kareem Works. Kareem Fort, CEO/Founder of Kareem Works, and Nadir were first introduced in early 2011 by The Orientation executive producer, Bridge. Fort was compiling tracks for the two-volume soundtrack to his highly anticipated documentary, Please Listen to My Demo, and selected the Nadir/Bridge collab "Glenfiddich & Cohibas." A few email exchanges later and the seeds were planted for this partnership that promises to introduce Nadir's music to a wider audience.
Philosopher King will be released for free download on Monday August 27. |
